The Life and Times of Jay Plat

Jay Plat, born Jason Profeta in Queens, New York and raised in Elmont, NY, first made waves in the ‘90s with Silent Assassins, earning local notoriety for their raw New York sound. From 97-99 Jay and E-Non were the dynamic duo sparking a movement—motivating a whole new generation of Elmont beatmakers to start producing their own music. Their passion and energy made them legends among up-and-coming artists in the neighborhood.

 Jay honed his skills in A&R at Platinum Deal Management, learning from legends like Ted Yanni and learning the craft from legends at HCnF studios. In 1998, he linked up with Mikey 2 Ninez to create gritty basement tapes that captured the city’s pulse. 

 This creative partnership evolved into founding Spitfire Studios in 2001—a hub that united talents like B-Sharp da Terra, SKE da Heistman, Griff Manolo, and Queens icons Cobretti, TOC, Knowledge, and Wiz.

By 2005, Spitfire Studios had landed on the industry map with connections to names like Murder Inc. and collaborations with artists such as WayDah Blacc and Mont Bangerz. After taking time off to focus on family life, Jay reignited his musical journey in 2012 with Ark Music Entertainment—quietly rebuilding his network and catalog.

THE FUTURE

The real turning point came in 2023 when Jay met Rob Love. Together they launched Night Mvmnts Records—reuniting Jay’s crew under one label and unleashing decades’ worth of tracks and new collabs. With Night Mvmnts as their home base, Jay Plat’s legacy entered a bold new chapter: blending classic NY grit with fresh vision and proving true hip-hop doesn’t fade—it just keeps evolving.
